VMware Player – Guest Operating System is not supported

Wie im vorherigen Artikel, https://www.taste-of-it.de/vmware-player-cannot-open-configuration-file/, bei dem ich eine virtuelle Maschine mit Windows10 von einem neueren VMware Produkt, auf einem alten VMware Player starten wollte, gibt es nun noch einen Fehler in Bezug auf das “Guest Operating System”.

Guest operating system ‘windows9-64’ is not supported. Select a guest operating system from the General page on the Options tab of Virtual Machine Settings.

Aber auch dieser lässt sich überwinden und die VM starten.

Dafür muss nur die Option guestOS in der .vmx geändert werden. In meinem Fall von windows9-x64 auf windows7-x64. Schon lies sich Windows 10 x64 im alten VMware Player 4.x starten. Oder aber über die Einstellungen der virtuellen Maschien Windows 7 x64 als Gast Betriebssystem auswählen.
